so i have started down the path of trying to understand evolution, and to get the linear lies that the jws planted in my head out of it.

i bought an audiobook called "evolution: what the fossils say and why it matters" by donald prothero.

i heard it recommended on an atheist podcast that i listened to.

I'm not sure I quite follow. How does creationism explain consciousness?

Presently, the same way "Evolutionists" do: It is a mystery which we have yet to comprehend.

There are so many things we do not yet know about Life.

Evolutionists strive to explain the "how" without in many instances searching for the "why?"

By the way, Evolutionists are are really just Creationists who haven't yet "hit the wall." As they proceed in their quest for answers they will, should they persist, hit that wall where it is finally acknowledged that Creation can be the only possible explanation.

Some hit it more rapidly that others, but we all will find it when we look very deeply at all of the evidence. The Wall changes minds.

Evolution chooses not to go there while Creation does. Can thoughts or the processing of environmental conditions to make decisions be separated from the entirety of living? Each species does seem to be "hardwired" to perform certain necessary tasks. Creation offers a plausible solution to the mystery in that it encompasses each and every characteristic in the design of life. The whole enchilada.

I'm not locked in to any simplistic Creation Model which lacks flexibility and/or potential for numerous Creative Options on the part of the Creators. Too much of either theory (Evolution or Creation) is based upon presumption; and who are we to pass speculative judgment on life processes which are so mysterious and so remarkable? To claim that thoughts and the "spark of life" itself are naught more than electro-chemical activities within cells or the brain is insufficient.

However the Creators did it, they left us a "record" to stimulate thought and to pursue comprehension. We have been given mental powers to try to figure it all out. I believe that is an aspect of the Plan of Creation as well. Challenging our capabilities.

Good point. Fortunately I have one of those that has served me well for several decades. It was embryonically formed while in Navy Boot Camp where us "recruits" were carefully instructed in how we would come to appreciate that "there is a right way, there is a wrong way, and there is the Navy Way!"

Then aboard ship that suit really got fully formed and hardened. Navy Petty Officers are especially good at "ass chewings" and assigning "shit details" to inculcate the desired "behavior modifications."

This erstwhile forum, by comparison, is a Rose Garden.

I wonder if the "Creation Model" is an accurate depiction. The geologic fossil "record" indicates that there have been numerous extinction events followed by explosions of new life forms as Earth conditions changed in our distant past. That may (and I tend to believe it is) be the correct Creation Model: various types of "creatures" were brought into existence at those times in Earths' development when they could contribute most to what was needed to be done. They had a necessary job to do within their time-frame while gradually making Earth and its atmosphere into what it eventually became at the advent of Man.

A well planned "Creation" would be designed to accomplish specific functions and to either adapt or be replaced by new species as conditions gradually progressed towards the end goal.

You don't think darwinism can/should explain the origin of thought?

I doubt that anyone can technically explain the origin of thought or sentience. But, as an essential characteristic of the various species, it certainly indicates that a designer was involved in getting all of the components of "life" in their proper places.

While we presently are inclined to follow the belief systems (or religions) which we find agreeable to our heart condition, one day future we shall know all. Whether we discover it all through Scientific Process or whether it is revealed by those above us who know; the secrets will be shared with all who seek Truth. As a matter of fact, the numbers of Scientists who believe a Creator with immense knowledge has put life on Earth is slowly growing. It is important to examine all of the evidence. To leave no stone un-turned. Do not disregard any evidence which seems to cast doubt upon our wishes and biases.

While I consider that to be very unlikely after having explored Life in its tiniest details, one of course can never be absolutely certain, until the day arrives. The day when all Truth will be revealed. We're getting there in jumps and starts but get there we shall. You're asking who told the first lie? Who is the father of the lie? I suppose it would be the ones who would rather we didn't believe (or have faith) that Love is our Creator.

I'm looking forward to that day when all will know what they've always wanted to know...

It is certain that all who've "changed their minds" to support the Theory of Evolution believe they've done so in response to very convincing evidence. It could also be that they've been very cleverly deceived. When the time is right we shall all be in a position to modify our beliefs as we let go of falsehood and accept Truth.

There is insufficient evidence presently accepted as such by the Evolutionists to either prove or disprove their doctrine. The evidence for Creation is abundant yet it cannot be "seen" by those who choose to support other beliefs. Which they are free to do. We do know that Science is subjected to pressures to conform to belief systems which support an agenda. Not all who are engaged in scientific research yield to such pressures; but they do so at a cost. The Theory of Evolution is not evil in itself and it certainly isn't a threat to Christianity. Some who claim to be Christian are just a tad too pushy about their false beliefs too.

It does seem that Creationism has been made into a Religion by certain advocates; but it shouldn't be. Why some believe it is their obligation to devote much effort to "changing minds" about these things is beyond me. Who really cares what anyone believes so long as it doesn't result in any sort of bad behavior? In truth, Creationism really doesn't require any sort of defensive effort. In due time all will "see" the Truth and will happily emit sighs of relief. Thinking about the origins of life and the mystery of all the good fruits which life has produced is time well spent. Trying to change minds is rather a waste. Unless of course, one has powers such as The Borg.
